Playoff Matchups and predictions

The One’s: Despite the providing a formidable test in last year’s playoffs the Jazz will not give the Lakers quite as many problems this year. As Bynum returns as the 4 to cover Bozer, Gasol will play the 5 and come out and play Okur, leaving Ariza to play the 3 or Lamar coming off the bench where Utah has no answer. Oh, we buried the lead, Kobe will score at will. Look for the altitude to count for a game (Lakers 4-1).

The fear in the of the Pistons is their playoff experience and determination but this is not your Daddy’s Pistons. Without Mr. Big Shot, an aging Sheed, and teams figuring out the residue of a bad AI trade, the Pistons may go down as the Atlanta Braves of the NBA as Cleveland hits the playoffs clicking on all cylinders bringing a King and the leagues best home, and overall record with them. Don’t kid yourself (Cavs 4-0).

The TWOS: Ok, KG is a mammoth loss but they still have enough in the arsenal to take out the Bulls and should. The Bulls are very young and athletic, and the addition of a couple of vets will help negate the edge experience but they will fall just short in a 7-game series. Look for the ghost to raise their head’s like they did in the first two rounds last year. (C’s in 7)

Denver is playing some of the best basketball in the NBA right now, fully implementing the addition of Chauncy who has been a welcome addition that just may be the missing link to take them to the second round. On top of that George Karl is on the hot seat and needs to push to the second round or go on permanent vacation. Nawlins’ is not looking as sharp as they have in previous years but CP3 should be able to create and keep games close, but won’t steal one in Denver. (Nuggets in 6)

The THREEs: Hard to believe that the Spurs are the oldest team in the playoffs seems like just yesterday they were the team of the decade. Now they must survive without the services of Ginobli who will miss the rest of the playoffs. Dallas has also come a long way from battling just to make the filed of 16 to coming in as a number six seed. The Mavericks are winners of 7 of their last 10, Dirk shooting better than 55% and averaging 30pts over that span. Dallas is playing its best basketball of the season and with the caveat that they DON’T go to a game 7 in San Antonio, Cuban’s got his team focused and we like the Mavs in only upset in the West. (Mavs in 6)

Orlando needs to hold serve in the first two games because Philly is a tough team to take out at home because of their ‘even athleticism’ where they are more prone to switch picks rather than fight through them. They still have no answer for Superman in the middle and the Magic seem to made the right acquisitions to help negate the loss of Nelson and are also playing their best ball at the right time. (Magic in 6)

The FOURS: The best series of the first round by far should be the Rockets and Blazers. Portland is the youngest team in the field of 16 and go ten deep in the rotation. Moreover they have the defensive stoppers, in Battier and Artest, to slow down Brandon Roy. Houston of course has the great wall of China, but Portland can counter with Prizbilla and Old Man Oden off the bench, but between the two of them they don’t equal Yao. Unfortunately this series may have already been decided when Houston dropped the last game of the season at Dallas and lost home court. How well will the young Blazer bench adapt to the added intensity of the playoffs? It’s a tough one but our pick are the (Blazers in 7).

We don’t know which way to go with the Hawks and the Heat. If D-Wade has his way with the slower ATL guards then this could be over in 5, but Wade has had some of his worst games against the Hawks. Atlanta has the confidence after representing well last year in pushing the Celtics to 7 games and the knowledge they can get back. It may not be enough as the Heat rooks (MB and Super Mario) have shortened the learning curve. (We like the Heat in 7)

Amazing that a team with 62 wins is an underdog. Despite the injuries, take account that Doc won't be outcoached by DelNegro.

jfb4justice (4/22/2009 at 2:58 PM) Report Bulls will win. Celtics are garbage without Garnett. Rondo is all they have against the bulls.

I will take my chance with Doc's leadership, judgment and insight into his team, along with Paul, Ray, Rajon, and tonight's secret weapon of Perk on the block ALL NIGHT LONG!

Kendrick Perkins will be the player of the game tonight, and ultimately will open the game up for Pierce to take over the second half. This team is galvanized for a big win tonight, and Chicago will be surprised on their own court.

DEFENSE will prevail tonight, led by Perk and Big Baby, and Rondo keeping Rose from getting another 40+. He'll "get his", but that'll play into Doc's game plan!

The Celts will go SMALL tonight, with Rondo, Ray, Tony Allen/Starbury/House , Pierce and Perk cycling with Baby...and Doc will expose the Bulls true weakness...COACHING!

Eddie House is going for 15+ tonight. Doc needs to wise up and play the House/Rondo combination

Paul and Ray will each score 30 tonight, and Bos wins 105-100

has that even happened one time this season where they both scored 30+ points.

The fact that Pierce was content &satisfied to be an also-ran on those earlier Celtic
teams is one of the reasons I downgrade him. I LOVED when Kobe bullied
Kupchak into making moves to improve the team and make them into title
contenders. I LOVED when he put Bynum on the spot & forced him to work
harder and get better. I don't see that drive & determination in Pierce. He
all of a sudden became this "warrior" last year and he's fading so far in the
playoffs this year when his team needs him the most....

As an avid NBA fan and Laker fan, I don't see any big deal over Pierce's name being mentioned right along with Kobe, Lebron & Wade. I get tired of all the individualizing anyway. Hell...as much as I despise the Celtics, the dude DID win those individual battles with Kobe & Lebron last year, whether KG & Allen were there or not....and he did earn that Finals MVP award. It ain't gonna happen this year!!! hahaha...but Pierce has a legit track record of great play, and did deliver when he finally did get his big chance last year. I think Brandon Roy is the next one to join that circle.

how can you say this when I know you saw firsthand, what PP did to the Cavs and Lakers last year. He was basically unguardable. Lebron hands was full with PP, and PP killed LA with the pick and roll.

pp didnt do it alone last year thats the big difference. remember they had pj brown, a healthy kg and a leon powe.whats his excuse this year then? if hes such a mvp then how come his team is on the verge of getting eliminated in the first round

I'm SO SICK of the Celtic drama, with the wheelchairs, injuries, heart attacks, ankles, knees, help me if I've forgotten something, just deal with the fact that you're "one hit wonders", who mortgaged the future for a ring and now it's time to pay the piper. You're through.

fishfans540 said...

Bill Russell & his celtics wouldn't win all those rings in today's NBA.
Whole different world now.
Not trying to take away what they accomplished, but it's not the same.

Even an injured Celtics team would be a tougher matchup for the Lakers than the Cavs would.
Lakers are gonna absolutely murder the Cavs in the paint.
Kobe won't even have to go off to win that series....

Am I the only Laker fan that is really hoping Boston makes it back to the finals? A win over Cleveland wouldn't be as satisfying IMO

the only thing i say works for pierce is that he is clutch yes he has hit a number of clutch shots, but then again you cant even say that much because being "clutch" isnt just about hitting big shots, its about putting your team on your back and willing them to victory in big moments and pierce has not done that (until KG and ray came along). last year pierce was great of course, im not disputing that. once again pierce is nowhere near those other 3 players, hell even Kevin Garnett (who is the best player on the celtics by far) would be a better fit to mention alongside kobe, lebron and wade, after all.........KG WAS an mvp candidate his FIRST YEAR on boston........just saying..........

I'm not gonna try to turn this into a Kobe / Shaq thread, but folks in L.A. know that
Shaq was the real cancer on that team; the national media doesn't report it cuz he's
funny & gives them good quotes.

If Buss had kept Shaq & let Kobe go, you think the lakers would be getting a sniff
of the title right now? Ask all his former teams about how great a team mate shaq is.

hey this is real talk, i respect paul pierce, and i even respect the entire celtics team as a whole, totally, im a basketball fan first and lakers fan second, but all jokes aside, i have to tell it how it is, paul pierce is not, and i repeat is NOT even on the same planet as people such as Kobe, Lebron and Wade, like if you say otherwise you are just being a homer everyone knows (even celtics fans) that pierce's name doesnt even belong in the same sentence as those 3 players

noahdiggs said...

I agree. Kobe, Lebron Wade are the top tier. Pierce would be on the next tier down, still a superstar, but not all world like those guys

mman said...

you are a certified FOOL if you're going to sit there and tell me that Paul Pierce is on the same level of Lebron James, and im not even a cavs fan i am a lakers fan, pierce is nowhere near the calibur of player lebron james is im sorry to break it to you, pierce is not up there and does not belong up there, you are the ignorant one if you even think otherwise

nobbomber said...

I thank PP for missing crucial free throws against the Lakers and in game 1 to allow chicago to take it to OT. Thanks PP we love ya FT shooting in the 4th

agreed.....for this series, i say go bulls (i almost cringe as a cavs fan saying that.....memories of jordan over ehlo....but i think im safe for now)

cavs are taking it all this year though....sorry

With the series tied 1-1, Chicago needs to stay constient on defense so Pierce and Ray Allen don't tak over for the game. For the Celtics, with Powe and Garnett gone, they need to be able to control Rose who had the remarkable game 1 and Gordon who had a remarkable game 2. I see this as the Bulls win game 3 109-100!!! Respond if I'm wrong!!!

hotboudain said...

I don't see Rose getting called for 2 early fouls tonight at home.
But I do see the Celtics getting whistled for all clutching & grabbing they do.
With that garbage bench, the worst thing they can do is get into foul trouble...

northern trouble said...

whats funny is the bulls have to try their hardest to beat the celtics every time out
whats funny is that tonight...all the pressure is on chicago
whats funny is that Ray Allen has hit 3 game winning 3's on a written play instead of freestyling a play like wade and lebron, allen gets open and takes his shot, he doesnt CRAB dribble or take a thousand steps slicing through defenders

cs for life said...

Notice to all Celtic haters....We are still the champs, and we still have heart and are tough to beat. The Bulls haven't been killing us. If fans would watch the games and stop hating, they would know that the Bulls have some good shooters out there with BG, Kirk, Salmons, and Derrick Rose is quick as hell.

i will admit i havent watched a lot of bulls games this year, but just watching the first 2 playoff games in boston says a lot. derrick rose is a stud when hes not in foul trouble and ben gordon is as good an offensive player as there is on both sides.boston will not go down easily, but i wouldnt be surprised to see chicago win the series or even have it go 7 games.

BbaLLiSmYLiFe01 said...

it's a fact the Bulls feel no pressure thats my point. They r playing loose knowing they are not supposed to win this. Warriors played like that vs Mavs that year. They played pressure free and all the pressure was on Dallas. Every team doesnt come into the season thinking they will win the championship. A lot of the teams have goals that end at just making the playoffs
