Cavs look dominant while Celtics and Lakers struggle at 2-2

Cleveland is well on their way to a sweep of the hopeless Hawks and then gets to wait for the survivor of the Celtics/Magic series that now looks like it will go seven games after Big Baby came of age hitting the last of his 21 points as time expired in Orlando, evening the series, taking back home court advantage, as well as the momentum of the series with one shot. The Magic managed to shut down Pierce, keeping Allen from even getting a touch but left Davis wide open from 21 feet. All things being equal, if you’re the magic and had to roll the dice it’s a bet you’d make again. Since when does Davis knock that down? You had to figure Orlando was ready to run into the locker room to chants of “we want King James”, instead it’s back to Beantown and the mire that will surely encompass game 5. What do you make of the Lakers? I’ll tell you their lack of killer instinct is what cost them game 5 in the finals last year as Boston came back from 20 down to win and eventually take the series, and now the ghost of softness past is rearing it’s ugly head again. Without the services of Yao Ming the Rockets out hustled, muscled, and worked LA in a game 4 win that was not nearly as close as the final score. The Lakers are not looking or playing like a team that will be dismantled if they aren’t fitted for rings come June, every game you keep waiting for them to kick it into a gear that never comes. The question remains, will it come in time to save this series and this franchise?? Who wins the East and West Semi’s? Let us know here and in the NBA playoff chat rooms and team rooms.

"Kobe is THE BEST and very entertaining when he starts to turn his swag on, but there's just somethin bout the Lakers that I just can't stand!"

As someone said earlier, you never know which Lakers team will show up. This is unacceptable for a professional team let alone a team with a coach with 9 rings and 2 players with 3. I don't understand why the Lakers have this on/off switch. With the exceptions of Jackson, Bryant, and Fisher, none of the Lakers have won anything. Also, look at how the Cavs have simply taken care of business against teams they were supposed to beat. Look at the Celtics, who are now relying on Brian Scalabrine to play a key role. They lost their best player (Garnett), a good big man (Powe) and yet they're still fighting the Magic tooth and nail. Look at the Magic, who lost their starting point guard (Nelson) for the playoffs yet are pushing the defending champs to the limit. Look at the Nuggets, who have taken a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Mavs. The Billups trade has to be one of the best trades of this decade. The move changed the Nuggets from a hugely talented, sloppy, no-defense, underachieving team to one that looks poised to play in the Western Conference for the first time in more than 20 years.

Kobe is a great, even awesome player, but great players do not always make great leaders. I saw Gasol trying to talk to Kobe about a bad pass during the 4th quarter of game 4. Kobe dismissed him like .. it doesn't matter, this games over. It may not matter. The Lakers will probably win the series, but that's a horrible attitude for the Lakers so called leader.

i will always be an artest fan. ron ron doesn't mix well with soft players, thats why he flamed out in indy after reggie retired.artest and stephen jackson were the only key players with the right mentality on that team. ron's good chemistry thus far with yao leads me to disbelieve the naysayers who think yao is soft.

you Laker have to quite making predictions. Everytime you do you lose. This series has a better chance of going 7 games than it does 6. Just enjoy this classic battle. It has been fun to watch so far and I believe the best is yet to come.

The Lakers WILL NOT be coming home with a ring this year. IF they get past Houston (yes, Lakers fans...that is a possibility, not a given) they will either be knocked out by Denver or they'll make it to the finals ONCE again for the 3rd time in the last 6 championships and lose. And we get to hear about Kobe and the trade speculations throughout the offseason. That is all. Thank you.

Laker fans are funny. First it was Lakers in 4...then Lakers in 5....now Lakers in 6.

Regardless of the outcome of this series, the Rockets have definitely exposed LAs lack of defense and toughness.

Hate the Lakers, but they'll win by 20+ tonight.

I am a lakers fan, and know this team well. Kobe will not let this game slip away. this is the defining series for the lakes. kobe needs to win a tough series with a sft team before he can win a championship.

You know everybody is want the Rockets to win tonight but it's not going to happen so get over it's a done deal tonight Lakers win tonight and then go to houston again to finish it off. You don't really think that the Lakers are going to lose again in houston.

Win or lose, you just gotta love and respect this team and what they've been able to accomplish. Go Rockets!! Keep on shocking the Lakers!!

Sure these two are tough defensively, but when kobe wants to score he will. surely everyone on this board understands this????

thanks for the decent article, but without being offensive to rockets fans, the lake show will win in 6.

formidable opponent.

With how hot the Nuggets are, the Lakers find themselves in a precarious situation. Houston is not lying down and taking a supposed beating, but rather putting up a damn good fight while missing two key, crucial pieces in McGrady and Ming. Even if the Lakers take this series, they're going to have to go up against a very, very good Nuggets team.

But, they'd be idiotic to be looking that far. Houston's still hanging around, when they honestly shouldn't be.

I'm a Celtics fan to the end... but I'm a Laker hater even longer than that... I miss KG though Scalabrine (sp) and Davis have been trying to step up and make up for that... Scalabrine has really surprised me this series... Rockets, Nuggets, Cavs, Celts, these are teams that play as a TEAM... I just haven't seen much of that from the Lakers since Shaq packed his bags, which why I don't see them winning until Kobe can acknowledge there are other players on his team that can play too. Kobe doesn't have to do everything for the Lakers and he needs to realize that. He's a 12 year veteran, played in numerous playoff games, and a future hall of famer, hes got nothing to prove to us anymore, except that he's a team player... something we have never seen much of from him.

Bynum is joke cause we as fans expected big things from him
but he has no passion for the game or no heart.
not right now,
and i dont know if thats from phil not starting him or him not playing at all. AND YES IT MIGHT BE CONFIDENCE OR MENTALLY HE IS NOT THERE.
but he knows he got a fat paycheck and he is acting like he DOES NOT want to be there.
HE IS NOT KWAME BROWN but he is sure playing like him.

Hell SHANNON BROWN WAS BARLEY PLAYING LOOK AT HIM HE PLAYS HARD ALL THE TIME.
BYNUM SHOWS ME HE DOESNT HAVE THE MINDSET TO PLAY THIS GAME OR AT THIS LEVEL AT THIS PARTICULAR TIME.

16-0 = nba title
16-12= nba title

I really hope all the Laker "fans" who are jumping off the bandwagon
after a bad loss stay off. Never in my life have a seen so many folks
throw in the towel after one game. Living up to the L.A. fan stereotype

Whats up Laker faithful. Let me start off by giving props to the rockets for not lyin down & giving up. Shame on my lakers for lyin down and giving the rockets new life. Lakers are not playing championship ball. They play only when they feel like it. I for one am tired of it. I also dont like the attitude of the team after the loss. Jackson says he not embarrassed. Well as a long time fan i am. Lakers help to fuel the fire haters need with a game like yesterday.

it's just very disappointing to see how we were on a mission at beginning of the season then lose our hunger and focus cuz you expect to win a series or so. I don't think as Cowherd and Barry said we haven't learned anything from last years beat down and we are trying to just play our way into the finals when teams are driving and desiring their way to the finals.

The Cav's and the Nuggets have played the game the right way. I haven't seen too many skirmishes or big time trash talking also they are basically sweeping their opponents without too much resistance. You haven't heard the losing teams coming out saying that they are being disrespected. If anything you hear the Cav's/James talk about taking care of the task at hand and not who's on the horizon in the second round. The respect I was talking about was the assumption that teams are going to roll over without a fight.
