In a similar fashion to the 2008 finals, game 4 will be looked at as the pivotal game of the series however this year much more fondly for the LA Lakers. Last year at this time they were contemplating how they could blow a 24-point lead in the third quarter with a chance to tie the series at 2 and finally put some pressure back on the Celtics (please see last year’s blog history). This year had just as much drama for them but a different outcome. It was the Lakers who faced the deficit, not nearly as daunting at 12 points but in a series where (game 1 omitted) the largest lead was paltry 7 points, a sizeable margin. Moreover they were in massive foul trouble and not getting to the foul line themselves. Oh yes, and their starting point guard had not seen the bottom of the net since they were made of baskets. Then something turned. Right out of the locker room to start the half LA started making up the deficit, outscored the Magic by 16 and by the end of the period they were up by 4. We followed was one of the best 4th quarters and OTs in NBA finals history as the Magic turned the tables on LA and had a 5 point lead with 11 seconds to go only to have Superman miss two foul shots then an 0-5 Derek Fisher drained a 3 with 4.6 to play, another in OT and with the second, may have sent the Magic on vacation, fishin’ as The Jet calls it. When the NBA season is over there will be plenty of time to contemplate decisions and there are several SVG will be spending his time on. First and foremost how do you not foul in the final seconds to ENSURE anyone, not just Kobe gets even the smell of a 3?? Why run with Nelson the entire 4th and OT when Rafer Alston had been giving LA fits since the start of game 2?? Lastly, you still had 4.6 to play in regulation why not use every time out you had to get the ball where you needed it? One question that will not fall on the feet of Stan was the free-throw shooting of the Magic. It wasn’t just Howard who let them down (and he was quick to point it out during the press conference). Just the same, the correct answers to the questions seem clear as day the next morning but even giving Stan the man the benefit of the doubt it does appear he has earned is “MOP” nickname again, despite comments about experience not having anything to do with the outcome. Well, if it wasn’t the players lack of experience then the lion’s share of the blame has to go to the person making the decisions. Only this time he’ll have to live with it all summer. Did SVG panic? Would you have stayed with Alston in the 4th? What about free throw shooting? Let us know here and in the NBA chat rooms and team rooms.

I have been a Laker fan through thick and thin, thru Kwame Brown and Smush Parker, thru 81 pts, thru a first round loss to PHX after being up 3-1 and thru our arch-rival beting us last year. To all you haters and detractors and those who jumped ship to LeBron's wagon or anywhere. I LOVE L.A.! We are the CHAMPS...and nothing anyone says negative about Kobe anymore holds any weight in any circle!
Boston, Look at the Lakers Playoff record this year: 16-7. Very nice, don't you think?
Kobe may still have one or two more in him, providing Lakers sign either Ariza or Lamar
Laker Fans we have been spoiled once again. Thank You Kobe and gang for giving us another championship. Sad to see idiots riot like that. They look for any reason to act up nothing to do with basketball. Kobe will be one of the greatest to ever play and he has proved to a leader. All this Mj vs Kobe stuff is just stupid talk. Kobe is the best player in the nba now thats all that matters.
Repeat of 88'. Lakers and Dodgers...
"He's [Kobe Bryant]learned how to become a leader in a way in which people want to follow him," [Phil] Jackson said. "That's really important for him to have learned that because he knew that he had to give to get back in return, and so he's become a giver rather than just a guy that's a demanding leader. That's been great for him and great to watch."
The Zen Master talking about the Finals MVP.
Boston is done.....KG is not nearly the player he once was. All he does is fire up jumpers and has no post game.
Paul Pierce is looking very slow out there.
Ray Allen..they are trying to move him - but there will be no takers.
Rondo can't shoot.
Perkins is a stiff.
Their bench is so bad that Brian Scalabrine plays.
Other teams in the East like Atlanta, Philly and whomever gets Chris Bosh are on the rise.
Celtics are in decline. A rapid drop to mediocrity.
The most impressive thing to me about the Laker's Finals performance was their fight. Even when they had Shaq and Kobe, they took quarters or games off. They didn't take a quarter off this series. Fought all the way. Even bricking FTs and the other team shooting a record percentage with Pietrus throwing in BS shots, they fought all the way to the buzzer. With a closeout game that everyone assumed they'd phone in and head back to LA to finish the Magic off, they had the killer instinct and took advantage of the blood in the water. Chomp.
The Lakers had the team and player of the decade in the 1980,s 5 championships and Magic Johnson and the team and player of the decade in the 2000,s 4 championships and Kobe Bryant. Not to mention the coach of the decade in the 1980,s Pat Riley and the coach of the 2000,s Phil Jackson. Congratulations to Kobe Bryant and the 2009 Lakers !!! LAKERS FOR LIFE!!!!
Kobe is exactly the reason I believe they lost. There is no player on that team like Kobe, who isn't afraid to lay into a dude who isn't doing his job. Bron tries to keep it light-hearted...whic h is fine when you're up by 20 with 1 minute left. Until then, you gotta keep it serious...this ain't no game for them, this is their career. If Bron wants to be leader (same for Dwight), he needs to put a foot in their a**, not a smile on their face.
You gotta keepp Ariza cuz of his Defesive presence.
He really made a mark on the playoffs for us
At least more consistantly.
Lakers they wont lose Ariza or Odom.. Odom clearly said last night he wants to stay in LA and take less money... LA was the best Road team this season.... & the West was never weak... the East is weak they had teams in the playoffs that weren't above .500! lol for the whole season and they got to make the eastern conference playoffs lol they shouldn't even let them teams play just replace w/ western conference teams who win over /.500
Orlando is still a very young team, now with a lot more playoff experience. The celtics are aging, and it looks like the Cavs are about to self-destruct. I didn't say LA is worried, but I like our chances of getting back to the finals.
So,LA Fans go out and celebrate today. Just try not to destroy anything.
Ok......
i bet today i won't see any KOBE HATER'S, FAKER HATER'S, FAIR-WEATHER FANS....no compare percentages, he can't win without shaq quotes, Lakers are soft anthems
-Gasol cant' play the game and will never win quotes, Lamar it garbage and can't step up in the big game, famar should be traded, Bynum is soft and will never be a good center (Howard - 10 pts 11 rebs)
-Phil is not the best or greatest coach in the league or the NBA
-Kobe isn't a leader compared to what we saw on the court last nite.
-Fisher was washed up and can't guard anybody or shoot the big shots.
-Ariza can't defend or make shots when he made almost 50% from the arc
-Lakers can't win on the road or wouldn't take in 5 games.
-Lakers wouldn't have beat Boston, or Cleveland.....trust me it would have been worse.
-Lebron is better then KOBE.......IS JUST BULL-S*** til he wins 4 rings then we can talk.
-DON'T START THE NEXT YEAR THEY WON'T BE GOOD STUFF.......WE ARE IN THE NOW!!!!
-Just congradulate, don't hate, participate and just wait for the next year to come.
-Cleveland won't be better with Shaq..........TRUST ME ON THAT ONE!!!
-and last but not least KOBE CAN DO WITHOUT SHAQ!!!! NOw, Tell Me How My A** Taste
By the way, to other Magic fans, let's be the ones to show some class here. We got beat. We missed key shots in clutch situations. It wasn't David Stern or the refs. So let's own it (and then show no mercy next season). So let's own it. The Lakers won, deservedly so. In a few days we'll start feeling better about the great season and postseason it was. The core of our team is still very young and intact (assuming we resign Hedo).
Congrats to the Lakers.
Very classy, sir. As a Rockets fan, I was rooting for the Magic. It still hurts that Lee missed that layup in game 2, and up five in the last 40 seconds Rashard and Dwight couldn't close it in game 4, those were critical moments in the series. What could of been. Just please keep us in conversation next year because we pushed them farther than anyone else.
Kobe: 23 million (earned it)
Gasol: 15 million (earned it)
Odom: 14.5 million (time to renegotiate)
Bynum: 14 million (if Lakers could do that again)
Walton: 6 million (WHY WHY WHY)
Sasha: 5 million (he should be traded for some SHEEP)
Ariza: 500, 000 ( I see a huge pay raise)
lmao at celtics fans....do yu really think you guys have a chance next year? your gonna trade allen for a draft pick, Pierce cant walk, and Garnets knees are gonna fall off. But you have Rondo, the greatest player ever who struggles to make layups. Congrats to you, LA for a championship win. Unfortanutely your losing Odom or Ariza, and i think the west is going to be tougher next year, withalot of young teams and stars rising. Other than SA, DAL, and PHX every other team seems like they are on there way up, and if Houston can stay healthy, they can definitely beat yall. And i cant believe the Cavs think Shaq is the answer. Shaq? youll be lucky to get 15-8 out of him next year...hes old, getting older, hes nto the answer morons. Axing mike brown and getting some guys who still have juice left (Rasheed, Z Randolph) is.
reality is... we were the best team this season we learned our lesson last year... & Boston fans will have a nice suprise next year... they think they are just gonna make it to the finals... I dont think so because you were exposed this year... you have no bench and no team w/out KG even though you have TWO other All Stars on your team.. no other team has three all stars... & Rondo is a bum!
Let's see how Orlando handles Boston with a healthy Garnett. The Magic probably won't even get out of the East. And I bet Howard's offensive game will still be a joke.
